Looking at my reference for fungi " Tom Young's Common Australian Fungi" I think it is likely to be Phallus rubicundus which is one of the foetid fungi with a smell of rotten meat or faeces, to attract flies, as the carriers of the spores. Found throughout Oz other than WA & NT.
